Flowers, flowers, flowers and more flowers. :-)
I had the DELIGHT in meeting and working with the most bubbliest and talented lady Sandra, designer and flower artist, owner and founder of Sophie & Luna and her gorgeous Pekinese dog Cooper.
Sandra is an extremely passionate flower artist extraordinaire and when I saw on her IG account she was looking for a makeup artist for collaborations I was instantly IN. I already knew of her work through my friend Kerri, owner of the gorgeous Bridal Indulgence boutique where I have a hair and makeup area for bridal trials. We have used quite a few of her flower crowns in our bridal photoshoots. They are super cool and simply fabulous.
Sandra makes bespoke floral pieces using authentic dried flowers, and gives a really tailored service to you whether it is for Bridal or Couture fashion. I would highly recommend you take a look at her website if you want something really unique and special for yourself. This lady has flair and drive and I just love her aura.
So read on to find out a little bit more about the photoshoot…
We went to the home studio of photographer Piers Vernon-Kell (btw he is a great DJ too and his artwork dotted around the space was great to see) along with the brilliant Katie-Jane Whitelock on the hair, I started on makeup. After a quick chat about Sandra’s brief and a look at the outfits that our gorgeous model Ocean Navarro was going to be wearing…
From a makeup perspective, I tried to keep the skin well highlighted and dewy and mixed up the looks by starting out with the more natural beauty looks (top right image) with softly defined brows, natural false lashes and a slight shimmer to the eye and a gentle blush which does have to be quite strong to be seen in photos more.
Then for the couture and brightly coloured floral head pieces I used a purple and pink shadow with a strongly winged black eye liner and also an orange eye on some of the others to almost give that clashing tropical effect. In the professional photos above we have a bold juicy red lip as well as nudes.
What do you think of the different looks?
What I love about my job and working with a creative team is seeing everything come together but also being able to be flexible and mix up different looks, which makeup is perfect for as you can remove it quickly (you do need a really good micellar water and eye makeup remover though, as it can be quite harsh on the models skin putting makeup on and taking it off several times in a day) . My faves include Bioderma Micellar Water and at the moment I love the Nouveau lash gentle eye makeup remover which leaves skin feeling super soft and hydrated and my own personal experience the skin around your eyes a bit tighter as well.
At the latter part of the shoot the photographer Piers tried out some shots using different coloured Gels over the lights that create a completely different but awesome effect (image on the right).
I thoroughly enjoyed the shoot for Sophie & Luna and think the images look perfect for the re-branding of the website.
Check out our silly photo we took at the end, even Piers has a Sophie & Luna head piece on…!
If you have any questions at all about the shoot or any of our services then please feel free to comment below. I have linked each person’s websites in here in case they interest you in any way.
Much Love,
Jen xx
