Photoshoot with this beauty.. Charlie Webster!
Jennifer Lo Hair + Makeup Artist
Hey Guys and Gals!
I just had to share some of these beautiful shots of Broadcaster, Presenter, Human Rights Ambassador, Writer, Survivor (and many other things too) as well as one of my best friends, CHARLIE WEBSTER!
We created a range of photos using some mood board/visuals as a starting point to ensure we were on the right tracks. We went to Photographer Laura’s new countryside studio called Espasa which is set in the stunning Surrey village of Shere.
Here are some of the inspo boards that you can see: for Charlie we really wanted to get across her charm, strength, beauty, charisma and grace with some strong visual images.
It’s always a pleasure and a privilege doing Charlie’s hair and makeup. We met in 2013 when I was booked to do her hair and makeup for the week where she was presenting for the ATP World Tennis Tournament at the O2. She has a lovely olive complexion so I tend to use foundations with yellow/golden undertones. I really enjoy using lashes on Charlie, and what we did for the shoot is ensured that it was in a cohesive order that flowed for hair styling and makeup as well. So, the more natural makeup and hair to be done first and then in between we went back to the makeup chair and tweaked, added more lashes, changed up eye shadow colours, different lip shades, to get the range of shots we wanted.
Styling is very important for a photoshoot too, and in most cases their will be a separate stylist who brings along a plethora of clothes or props or both depending on their specialty and the shoot brief. In this case, for Charlie she brought along some of her favourite items of clothing and accessories. We also brought a very delicious and vibrantly coloured donut!
Our photographer Laura was able to give direction and suggestions for poses, even though Charlie is very experienced having someone to guide you is always helpful for catching best lighting effects, it is equally important that if something does not look right that the team also speak up about that too. Sometimes my styling efforts with hair and accessories just didn’t look right on camera and it’s best to notice and point it out so time isn’t wasted.
I’d love to know whether you think we have captured Charlie and the person she is in the photos and any constructive words are always welcomed too. As it really is a team effort on these Photoshoots. I think sometimes people do not realise what prepwork is involved alongside excellent team work and communication on the day. Obviously we had a GREAT subject to work with in the first place….xx
